Email Marketing Platforms: Mailchimp Alternatives
In our fast-paced digital world, social media seems like the most effective path for marketing to consumers. It’s at least the most prominent. New and updated platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok promise quick results to their users. But anyone in-the-know understands that email marketing is still the most effective tool out there. It’s not even close. IDC says that email marketing is 40 times more effective in acquiring new customers than Facebook and Twitter combined.
Email Marketing with Mailchimp
One of the most well-known email marketing platforms is Mailchimp. It started as a side project for its co-founders in 2001 to help small businesses utilize digital marketing channels. Soon, they saw how much need there was for a cheap alternative to pricey, high-tech firms. When they expanded their suite of features in the mid-2010s, the company grew exponentially. Mailchimp is undeniably a powerhouse for email marketing.
Why Mailchimp Alternatives?
However, while Mailchimp certainly knows what they’re doing, from segmentation to automation, it’s not the best fit for every business model. The digital world is a huge place with plenty of options. Are you just starting to plan your first email campaign—or do you want to upgrade what you already have? It’s important to look at everything that’s out there to find the right fit for you. 6 Powerful Mailchimp Alternatives
So, where else can you go for your email marketing? Here’s a small slice of other platforms that serve as Mailchimp alternatives:
If you run an ecommerce business, Klaviyo may be the optimal Mailchimp alternative for you. It’s as easy to use as Mailchimp, with email templates at your fingertips—but the difference is in the data. With a heavy focus on data science and computer learning techniques, Klaviyo provides in-depth insight into your audience that allows you to grow your business intelligently. These data resources will help you analyze trends in your audience and uncover opportunities to better reach your customers. That means you’ll be sending the right message at the right time.
Additionally, Klaviyo is known for its painless integrations. The Klaviyo directory offers over 100 pre-built integrations making your CRM or eCRM easy to install. Further, Klaviyo’s Shopify integration is especially seamless. It’s easy to understand why most Shopify users migrated to Klaviyo in the last few years.
And, when you’re working with Email Broadcast to set up your integration and manage your email marketing campaigns with Klaviyo, you can sit back and watch your brand-new email campaigns drive more traffic and revenue.
The first of our Mailchimp alternatives has been around for a while, and delivers all the usual goodness of a great email marketing platform—with a few added extras. It has excellent email templates with a user-friendly drag-and-drop editor. They also have programmable If/Then logic built into their messaging. That way, each contact receives a custom send based on the experience they’ve had with your brand. They even now include a “conversational bot” feature to answer customers’ common queries automatically. Plus, with smart sending, your messages get sent at the best possible time—even across time zones.
Hubspot’s free plan includes forms, CRM, social media integration, and ads management. However, their limit is 2,000 sends per calendar month. If you want to upgrade, their paid plan starts at $50 per month. Even then, it misses out on key features like A/B testing and campaign reporting. This could pose a problem. It all depends on the size of your company and the frequency with which you communicate with your customers. As far as Mailchimp alternatives go, though, this is still one worth considering.
This platform is working on making its mark as one of our potential Mailchimp alternatives. It’s relatively new and frequently updated. The user interface is easy to navigate. It has a typical suite of email marketing features. Plus, they also take the time to teach their clients how to improve their campaigns—all from within the program. Don’t count them out even though they’ve only been around a decade, either. This powerful platform reaches far and wide with unlimited customer segmentation and great templates to start customizing.
Moosend stands out from our Mailchimp alternatives because their entry-level membership is “free forever.” At least, as long as your contact list stays below 1,000 entries. Even if you exceed this, though, payment plans start at just $10 per month. They also have a “pay as you go” option to bump up your limits when you need it. It’s certainly a contender.
The oldest of our Mailchimp alternatives is AWeber—they’ve been around since 1998! Despite being the senior citizen on our list, this platform has a range of features. Most of these features are typical for anyone looking to start doing serious email marketing. Additionally, they have a mobile app that allows you complete access to its programming even on the go. (It’s pretty savvy for an older platform.)
AWeber has a 30-day free trial with full access to all of its features, including their digital app—but don’t be fooled: It’s still not the cheapest on our list of Mailchimp alternatives. After your first trial run, they charge strictly by the subscriber count. For the first 500 contacts, the cost is $19 per month. After that, you’ll need to upgrade your plan if you want to keep sending messages…even if you don’t send to every customer on your list.
Founded in 2014, EmailOctopus’s mission is to “provide email marketing that’s simpler, more intuitive, and a better value.” If you’re looking for a Mailchimp alternative that offers similar features but can save you money, EmailOctopus is a platform worth considering. (It even offers a savings calculator to back up their promise.)
EmailOctopus offers many easy-to-execute features:
- Customizable subscription forms that make growing your audience from your website a cinch
- Landing pages you can set up within minutes
- Pre-designed email templates that you can customize with a simple-to-use email editor—or build your own templates from scratch and import HTML templates for full creative control
- Simple automation campaigns to welcome new subscribers
- Data and insights to help you tailor your messages and segment your audience
- Straightforward campaign reporting to see what’s working with your email campaigns
- Integrations like Shopify, Gravity Forms, and Squarespace so you can easily import new subscribers
This company is the second youngest in our list of Mailchimp alternatives. They started in 2010—one year before newcomer Moosend. It stands out from the crowd with its great SMS feature. This allows you to send text messaging to your customer list with absolute ease. It has a comparable free plan to Moosend (minus the A/B testing). However, on the downside, everything you send has Mailjet branding on it.
Their major difference for Mailjet in our Mailchimp alternatives comes in the way you pay for service. Once you start a payment plan, it costs about $9 per month. You get up to 200 sends per day and 6,000 sends per month—whatever your contact list looks like. Plus, with a “pay as you grow” deal, you can make adjustments incrementally as your business expands.
More MailChimp Alternatives…
In the end, whichever company you choose, email marketing is still its own beast to tame. It doesn’t matter how intuitive the platform is, or how high-tech and user-friendly the features are. Sending compelling messaging that garners high click rates and consistently converts sales is a necessary skill to master – – but that’s just the start. You’ll also need to start with a solid strategy and then handle website integration, design, merge it with your CRM, understand reporting and more. If you don’t know how to use it to your advantage, you’re never going to get your money out of it…even if it only costs you time.
That’s why the best choice of our Mailchimp alternatives is hiring an email marketing agency like Email Broadcast.
