People all over the internet have begun using AI to write their blog posts for them—but is using blog AI helpful, or even right? In this post, we’re taking a closer look at everything you need to know before you consider using AI to help you write blogs for yourself, your boss, or your business.

What Does Blog AI Do, Anyway?

Crafting blog content is an essential element of any enterprise nowadays. Unfortunately, writing blogs in the traditional sense can become a huge expense of time and energy. And when your schedule requires you to create new blog content every week, it can take a toll quickly.

That’s where many people claim that blog AI can save the day. Because AI can scan and summarize the wealth of information available on the internet in just a few seconds, it can be used in a variety of moments in the creative writing process to expedite production.

However, the most important thing to note is that blog AI is a tool to help human writers write… not a full substitute for human writers. The AI can’t decide what’s best for your business, what strategy you should use, or even what tone or voice will resonate best for your audience. Whatever you do, don’t press the “generate blog” button and post whatever it produces—at least, not without giving it a second look.

That being said, AI is still a powerfully useful tool for your blog-writing aspirations. So let’s get into the details.

Blog AI can give you a huge boost while writing—in a number of ways. Based on our experience, here are the top five methods you can use to apply your AI when writing.

1. Generate Topic & Keyphrase Ideas 

Coming up with a strategy for your blog is a great way to get started—even before you make your first post. But what are your readers searching for? What are their pain points, and how can you help them find solutions? Blog AI can suggest some potential topic threads for you to extrapolate upon. You can pick the ones with the most potential and then use those to dig even deeper.

Before long, you’ll have a strong list of topics for future blogs. In fact, you might even have a whole year of content ready to go! By having a solid plan in advance, the act of sitting down to write your blogs will become much more approachable.

2. Do Preliminary Research

What Are the Limitations of Blog AI?

Having an active, relevant, and valuable search-engine-optimized (SEO) blog on your website can do wonders for your business. Clearly, using blog AI to speed up that production process and make your work more professional is advantageous. But is it worth the learning curve? The short answer is often yes—but before you decide if it’s worth it for you, there are a few possible issues worth considering.

Ethical and Legal Considerations

Blog AI—and any other artificial intelligence generator—works by quickly scanning its available resources (usually, the internet) for relevant information and then providing a summary of that information to the user. Because of this mode of operation, it leaves many people wondering: is it okay to use blog AI as a writing assistant? Or is it akin to plagiarizing?

Unfortunately, between the continued advancement of the technology and the lagging legislature around intellectual property, it’s a minefield. On one hand, many human artists across mediums reject AI—for good reasons. By using computers to analyze and duplicate (with small changes) the works of others, it’s made plagiarization prolific. Plus, AI companies are making lots of money by feeding original artwork to their algorithms… without ever paying the artists for the work that makes their AI useful.

However, on the other hand, AI has proven itself a powerful tool in a wide variety of pursuits to help artists generate quality, original content—faster. And that’s not to mention the great work that similar AI operations have for other applications, like scientific research.

So, is it okay to use AI to help you write blogs? As of now, yes. The best thing you can do to avoid accidental AI plagiarization is simply to add your own human touch to all of your posts.

Accuracy and Bias

Again, because blog AI can only create content based on what it finds online, it’s very easy for it to present inaccurate information to users. For example, if a certain bit of “fake news” lands on enough websites, an AI won’t be able to determine if it’s factual or fictional. It simply sees that the information has been repeated and will assume that it’s accurate. As the human element in this formula, you should always verify the validity of any data you present in your pieces independently.

Similarly, blog AI often inadvertently perpetuates biases held by content creators. As a human society, we’re always striving for progress and self-improvement. But because we have a long history of insensitivity, bias, and cruelty (which the AI can’t always filter out), this forms the foundation of much of the content that the algorithms draw from.   2. Strategy. Make sure that your blog will say and do what you want it to. What was your intention or thesis statement for this post? Did you get your point across accurately and efficiently? How will this post support your overall strategy? And above all, are you providing real value to the human readers on the other side of the screen?
  3. Accuracy. Does the writing in this post appear to be factual (to the best of your understanding)? Is your authentic insight present?
  4. SEO. If you’re looking to optimize your blog post for search engines, it’s important to eliminate any red flags and boost the presence of keywords. Do you use keywords and phrases that your audience is looking for? Is this post at a good readability level? Has it been formatted properly for your needs?
  5. Authenticity. Blog AI can sometimes go over the top in its attempt to sound more human. Trim back anything that sounds robotic, superfluous, or repetitive. Are there filler words that can be cut? Does it make sense? Are there any rough spots? Add your own human touch!

Use Blog AI to Improve Your Writing

Overall, blog AI has already proven to be an immensely useful tool for writers everywhere. It can help generate ideas, refine strategy, draft preliminary content, proofread, and even suggest improvements. Plus, by eliminating that “blank page” writer’s block, it can even make the process of generating original content much easier. Of course, as with any powerful new tool, AI comes with its share of issues and limitations. Because it can only generate based on what it’s given, it has the potential to facilitate plagiarism, whether accidental or intentional, and to perpetuate stereotypes and misinformation. Regardless, blog AI can be used to create fantastic, relevant, and worthwhile content.
